Working toward
Carbon Neutrality

Purchasing green tags, which are credits representing green energy produced by an energy facility, like a wind farm, bio gas plant or solar farm, are just one way to help a company achieve a carbon neutral standing. Calculate your impact, learn about installing your own energy system , and begin to make informed decisions about the source of your goods and services.

a carbon neutral company

As part of our commitment to becoming a more sustainable company we are leading by example, just as our clients do, and have adopted a goal to become a carbon neutral company. The exciting part, as a growing small business we are well on our way to incorporating this goal as our company grows.

We know we can't completely eliminate our company's impact on the Earth and that being “carbon neutral” is hard to track in a complex world of supply and demand, but we aim to find a balance as we move forward. Striving toward carbon neutrality sets a standard of excellence for all of our business processes and this standard is the very reason we have set it as a goal to achieve.

How are we going about this?
First we have analyzed our current carbon footprint and off set what we know we are doing in relation to carbon expenditures.

Since much of our operation uses electricity, Ecofusion has purchased 19 Green Tags from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation to offset what we have estimated as a significant portion (at least 80%) of the carbon emissions of our operations (27,000 lbs). This includes our air travel, electricity, vehicle usage, web servers/email and other miscellaneous carbon expenditures. We are currently exploring options to also buy green energy from our electricity provider in the District of Columbia.

Our commitment to Green Tags was recently recognized by B-E-F and we like to ask our colleagues and preferred partners to match our efforts. Recently our colleagues at ONE Northwest took us up on our challenge and now offer a green web package to their environmentally focused non-profits. When choosing partners, service providers, and sub contractors, we either choose a like minded group or we talk with a potential group about mitigating their own impact (see what happened with ONE NW).

Our next step is to take stock of what we are doing as we go along. We are doing this so that we can understand how we can cut and reduce our own emissions, or emissions connected to the decisions we make. Along with our financial accounting, Ecofusion is working to examine how much carbon shows up on our balance sheet. By examining and documenting our annual greenhouse gas impacts, we can look for ways to reduce impacts as we move forward.
