Exploring a New Trend in Sustainable Foods

As social responsibility evolves in our communities, the food services industry and government have begun to encourage sustainability and management of the “footprint” of food from the supply chain to the consumer. Ecofusion collaborated with I.L. Creations, Washington, DC’s premier government food services provider, to develop a philosophy for sustainability and define a new industry standard by which to manage operations.

New Philosophy and New Rules

In the initial phase, we defined a new philosophy and guideline for sustainability.

With this new philosophy in mind, Ecofusion began the next phase with a comprehensive internal audit of existing practices used to measure against industry standards.  Our research presented an opportunity to break new ground and create a new standard for food services contractors within government owned facilities.

Committed to creating realistic sustainable solutions, Ecofusion developed a set of requirements tailored to I.L. Creation’s and aligned it with their new philosophy. The requirements promoted healthy sustainable food options and services, as well as managed the environmental impact. We identified attainable targets, effective supply-chain processes, and a reasonable timeline to integrate sustainability into responsible food options, purchases, sales, and operations with minimal impact on the business performance. In addition, Ecofusion created a checklist through which to communicate key milestones and incorporate continuous improvement in all areas through to 2013.

A Plan Delivered

Ecofusion delivered a formal proposal with a sustainability plan, suggestions for implementation, promotional programs, as well as training and education initiatives. Our proposal was designed to position I.L. Creations at the forefront of innovation and industry, promoting sustainable initiatives that meet new government requirements.

As a result of our collaborative effort, I.L. Creations was awarded a multi-million dollar government contract over the next several years with the Department of State.
